Lucknow: A fraudster, who claimed himself as UPPCL chairman Alok Kumar, grabbed Rs 10 lakh from the contractor of the electricity department.
The victim contractor has lodged an FIR against the unknown fraudster at Talkatora police station. According to the victim Syed Mobin Ahmed, on August 16, he received a call from Executive Engineer NK Singh of Rajajipuram.
This is the case the Executive Engineer had said that UPPCL Chairman Alok Kumar wants to talk. The contractor said that he is calling them. After talking to the engineer, as soon as the contractor placed the phone, he got a call from an unknown number.
When the contractor saw the True-Caller app, the number was saved as Alok Kumar MD. The caller, calling himself chairman, called him an emergency and asked him to transfer Rs five lakh to his account. After getting into the hoax, the contractor transferred Rs 5 to RTGS in the account of the accused.
After a while, the phone rang again and asked the contractor to transfer five lakh more. Not only this, the accused implicated that the entire rupee would be returned within three to four hours. The victim got stuck in the matter and transferred five lakh rupees again.
It is alleged that after some time, the man, who describes himself as the chairman, asked to send 10 lakh rupees. When in doubt, the contractor telephoned the Executive Engineer and told him.
On this, the engineer said that I had also received a call from the said number and the person who described himself as MD, took the number of the contractor of my area, threatening me.
Upon realizing the fraud, the victim could not be contacted when she called the accused’s number. Distressed, he contacted the police and demanded action. According to the police, the accused is being traced on the basis of call details.
