(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Navsari: There have been two reported cases of alleged rape of minor girls in Gujarat’s Navsari district. Navsari Deputy Superintendent of Police BS Mori gave information about both the incidents. In the first incident, three minor cousins allegedly raped a 12-year-old minor girl for five months. The victim was then admitted to a hospital where it was found out that she was four months pregnant.
In another incident in the district, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her cousin’s friend on 3 October. According to the police, the accused had also posted obscene pictures of the girl on social media. According to the DCP, in the first incident, the minor was raped by one of her cousins when she was alone at home. She later told this to his two other cousins, after which he also threatened and raped the minor. All the accused in this case are under 18 years of age. He said the victim had a stomach ache, after which she was taken to the hospital.
During the investigation, doctors told the victim’s mother that the girl was four months pregnant. After this, the girl’s mother again informed her mother about the incident. DSP Mori said that the accused are juveniles and a case has been registered under POCSO law.
In the second incident, the police arrested a man for raping a 13-year-old girl and making videos and posting it on social media. Police said that the accused took the minor girl to a secluded place on her motorcycle on 3 October. The accused raped her and took pictures on her mobile phone, which she later posted on social media. When the girl’s relative came to know about these pictures, the relative asked the girl after which the matter was revealed. The police have registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC, POCSO Act, and Section 66(e).
