Aatmja kumari(Intern Journalist): The 7-year ban on fast bowler S Sreesanth in the IPL spot-fixing case ended today. He is free to play cricket from Monday. He said that I am now free from all kinds of charges and can play again. Now whenever I get a chance on the field, I will try to give the best on every ball, even if I am practicing only.

The 37-year-old bowler said, “I have 5 to 7 years more time left to play cricket and I will try to give my 100% to whichever team I play.” If Sreesanth proves his fitness, he can be seen playing for Kerala in the next home season.

He is also assured of a chance by the Kerala Cricket Association. However, due to Corona, the domestic cricket season was postponed this year. In such a situation, his return may be delayed. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has also written a letter to all the State Cricket Association and said that domestic cricket will start only when the situation is fine.

7 years ago, Delhi Police arrested Sreesanth and two fellow Rajasthan Royals players Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan for match-fixing. After this, the three players were banned by the BCCI. However, Sreesanth protested against this and a special court acquitted him of the charges in 2015.

After this, in 2018, the Kerala High Court lifted the life ban on him. But in 2019, the Supreme Court upheld his crime. But asked the BCCI to reduce Sreesanth’s sentence. The board later reduced the life ban imposed on him to 7 years, which expired on Sunday.

Sreesanth took 87 wickets in 27 Tests and 75 in ODIs before the ban. He was a member of Team India winning the T20 in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011. During the ban, he tried his hand in both acting and politics. In the last assembly election, he was a BJP candidate from Thiruvananthapuram and was defeated by Congress candidate VS Shivakumar.
