(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): Social media has emerged as a hero when it comes to helping those who need it the most, especially during these unprecedented times. After a video of Delhi’s Baba Ka Dhaba went viral, people have come together to shower their support for several local vendors who are living hand to mouth during this pandemic.
A social media user has come forward to help a 70-year-old couple in Delhi’s Dwarka has surfaced online. The video was shared by Vishal Sharma on his Instagram handle @foodyvishal.
The elderly couple sells tea for Rs10 at a roadside near Sector 13, Dwarka, New Delhi. In the video, Baba tells that their alcoholic son beat him so much that his hand was fractured. Amma says that his back got broken after their son-in-law beat him. Baba gets teary-eyed while sharing his story.
The couple sold bhutta (corn) for a month. Later, their daughter helped them set up a small tea shop near Subhash Apartment in Dwarka’s Phase 1, Pocket 1.
Vishal helped them set up their shop by getting packets of chips, namkeen, peanuts, and rusk for them. He also gave them milk, chai patti to make tea. Vishal also brought ration, vrat ka khana, and sanitizer for the couple. He also offered them some Rs 10,000 to help them.
An overwhelmed Amma calls him “beta” for helping them set up the shop. Vishal requested doctors to watch the video to help treat Baba’s injuries. He urged people to visit their shop and support them.
