With over 3 lakh coronavirus cases in the country, UK PM Boris Johnson sees a ray of hope by getting early access to 90 million doses of three different types of covid-19 vaccines through partnerships with pharmaceutical companies.
“As a result of these partnerships, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland could have access to enough doses to vaccinate and protect priority groups identified, such as frontline health and social care workers and those at increased health risk,”

The agreement for 30 million doses was signed with two companies namely, BioNTech and Pfizer whose vaccine has reached phase 2 trials. The second agreement of 60 million doses and a further 40 million more doses of the vaccine proves to be safe, effective, and suitable is signed with Valneva. The third deal is with AstraZeneca for one million doses which will be used to protect immunocompromised people,i.e, the people who can’t be vaccinated.
“Obviously I’m hopeful, I’ve got my fingers crossed but to say that I’m 100% confident that we will get a vaccine this year-or indeed next year-is, alas, just an exaggeration, we are not there yet”.
