New Delhi: (Geetesh Ujjainwal, Intern Journalist) Two teenagers who went for a swim in the Yamuna near Signature Bridge with nine other friends on Sunday drowned.
The friends, who panicked and left them without raising an alarm, later told their families that the boys were kidnapped. When the cops confronted the friends, they confessed to have had lied as they feared being charged with their death.
The incident was reported at the Usmanpur police station by the families of the two boys, who alleged that their children were kidnapped.
During the investigation, police questioned the friends, who claimed that they had seen the boys near the river along with some unknown people, following which they disappeared. However, during the search, the cops did not find anyone else apart from the youths heading towards the river. The friends were again confronted, and this time they said they had drowned. Based on their disclosure, police have contacted the Boat Club and called in divers to look for the bodies. Till late evening, the bodies could not be traced.
