The health ministry confirmed that active smokers are more likely to develop the symptoms of coronavirus as their lips are in constant touch with the fingers which is the easiest way of transmission of the deadly virus from hands to mouth. The health ministry also stated that active smokers, if develop the virus are likely to die because of already damaged lungs.
“smokers are more likely to develop severe symptoms or die from COVID-19, as it primarily attacks the lungs.”
A senior health official at the Ministry said that they had inputs from experts who confirmed the above stated.
Not only smoking products such as water pipes or hookah but chewing tobacco products such as gutka, paan, zarda, etc. increase health risks as they increase the urge to spit in public which spreads infections and contagious diseases.
“Smoking, e-cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, pan masala, and like products can increase the risk and severity of pulmonary infections because of damage to upper airways and a decrease in pulmonary immune function.”
A two-page advisory issued by the Ministry explained
