Saloni Subha ( Intern Journalist ) The Covid-19 cases in Bihar surged to 63% between July 15-August 1, but the percentage of people testing positive out of those being tested has come down by almost 50% in the same period. The positive rate shows how widespred the disease is.
According to the State health department data, Bihar’s positivity rate was 15.17% on July 15, which decreased by 7.75% on August 1. Bihar has increased it’s testing by 3.5 times since July 15, when it tested 10,052 samples as against 35,619 tested on August 1, taking the total tests conducted to 6,12,415.
Recently, Bihar’s positivity rates have decreased since June 27 when it was 14.53% and the samples tested during the day were 14,236. The reversal happened after the state government replaced Uday Singh Kumawat with Pratyaya Amrit as Bihar’s Principal Secretary, health.
“When Delhi can do 38,000 tests per day, why can’t Bihar?” the CM said during a review meeting on the management of coronavirus and floods, asking kumquat to quit if he is not capable of taking care of health department.
“The decline in positivity rates of coronavirus has been possible because we have ramped up the testing across the state. I am still not satisfied and would like to get it down less than 5%,” said Amrit. According to WHO, a positivity rate of less than 5% for two weeks indicates an epidemic is under control, he further added.
