(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar said on Thursday that farmers in the state did not get the benefit of Rs 8,400 crore as the state government has not implemented the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana. With this, he said that it is time to do justice to the farmers. A senior TMC leader objected to the comment and said that the Mamata Banerjee government has launched several schemes in the state in the last nine years in the interest of farmers.

Dhankhar said on Twitter that farmers should not be deprived of the assistance provided under the central government scheme. The governor wrote on his Twitter handle, “Due to the failure of the Mamta government, the farmers did not get a profit of 8,400 crores. In my address to the Legislative Assembly on February 07, 2020, Prime Minister Kisan Yojana was not mentioned in the profitable schemes mentioned by the government. 620 crores only for the farmers.

It is time to do justice to the farmers. Reacting to Dhankar’s claim, senior TMC leader and minister Farhad Hakim said that the governor should get information about various schemes launched by the state government for the farmers. Should do Hakim said, “The governor should find out about pro-farmer schemes launched by the state government in the last nine years, before making any such remarks.” Earlier this week, Dhankhar called on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee He had written a letter to, in which he expressed displeasure over not implementing the Central Government’s Prime Minister-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, calling it a “cruel joke” and “historical injustice” with the state’s 70 lakh farmers. He had said that under this scheme, farmers across the country have received about Rs 92,000 crore so far and farmers in Bengal have not received anything.
