Mahi, via his official Instagram account, posted saying “Thanks a lot for your love and support throughout from 19:29 hrs, consider me retired!” Having played 350 ODIs, he amassed 10,773 runs at an average of 50.6 and featured in 98 T20Is, scoring 1,617 runs at an average of 37.6, including two half-centuries. Mahi retired from Tests in 2014, after playing 90 matches.

Minutes after Mahi announced his retirement from international cricket, his CSK teammate Suresh Raina announced that he “choose to join” the journey. His post read: “With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you ( Dhoni).” Most of their fans tweeted saying “The partnership will continue beyond the 22-yards pitch”
