(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): Like many countries of the world, work is going on very fast for the discovery of the corona vaccine in India. India’s first Corona vaccine ‘Covishield’ is being developed by Pune-based biotech company Serum Institute, which has been claimed that the vaccine will be available in the market in 73 days. Now it has been said by the institute that the claim being made about the availability of ‘Covishield’ is wrong and based on conjecture.
The Serum Institute of India (SII), while clarifying on its own behalf, said that it would like to clarify that the claim being made in the media regarding the availability of ‘Covishield’ is wrong and based on conjecture.
Testing of Phase III continues
On behalf of the Serum Institute it was stated that at present, the government has allowed us to manufacture only the vaccine and store it for future use.
The institute informed that once the trial is successful, ‘Covishield’ will be commercialized and all the required regulatory approvals will be implemented.
The Serum Institute reported that Phase III testing for the Oxford-Astra Zeneca vaccine is still ongoing and only once the vaccine has been proven to be immunogenic and efficacious, SII will officially confirm its availability.
