(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: The Sports Ministry has recognized 20 National Sports Associations. Sports associations like Hockey India, NRAI, Judo, Cycling, Swimming have been recognized for a full year, while Boxing, Football, and Athletics have been recognized till 31 December this year. These three sports associations have been made clear that they should hold their pending elections as per Sports Code only after that they will be given full recognition. Not only this, the Ministry has given six months extension to all the National Sports Federations to fully follow the Six Sports Code. The Ministry has informed the Delhi High Court of the recognition of these sports associations.
On Monday, the order for recognition of weightlifting and wrestling association was officially issued. The ministry announced the recognition of Hockey India, Fencing, Punchak Silat, swimming, and soft tennis in the second affidavit filed in the High Court, while the third affidavit recognizes 15 sports associations. These include sports associations like shooting, cycling, judo. Athletics, boxing, and football elections were due this year but were postponed due to Corona. Apart from these three, there are many other sports associations which are to hold elections this year. All these sports associations will be recognized until 31 December only. The ministry has also made it clear to the sports associations that after following the sports code completely and report it on their website.
