(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): Amid the ongoing clash with China, there are high hopes for the signing of the BECA (Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement, BECA) deal during the talks between the defence and foreign ministers of India and the US. The agreement between the foreign and defence ministers of the two countries will be signed during the talks to be held in New Delhi on October 26-27. Let us know that the preparations for this dialogue to be held between the Defence and Foreign Ministers of India and America are in full swing.
The scope of this dialogue to be held exactly one week before the US presidential election will be limited. If the two countries agree to sign the BECA deal, it will be the biggest achievement of this dialogue. The format of the talks from both sides is expected to be finalized within the next two days. This will be the third agreement between India and the US. Earlier, the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement was signed in 2016 and the Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement in 2018.
The BECA deal is expected to be signed during a meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and US counterparts Mark Asper and Mike Pompeo. This agreement will begin negotiations on the issue of geospatial cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries. India and the United States are working together in the field of defense. In the last 15 years, India has acquired weapons worth the US $ 20 billion from the US. These include the C-17 Globemaster and the C-130J Super Hercules Transport aircraft.
