(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: It has been decided to constitute a monitoring committee to expedite the construction of the new Parliament building. This new building has all state-of-the-art facilities and MPs in focus. On the other hand, a special ‘Constitution Room’ is also being constructed in this new building to serve the democratic legacy of India. In fact, Lok Sabha Speaker Birla held a review meeting with Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and officials of the concerned departments and agencies in connection with the construction of the new Parliament House in Parliament House on Friday.
In this meeting, Birla was informed of the progress made in the relocation of existing facilities and other structures from the proposed area for the construction of the new building. Detailed information was given about various measures to be taken to surround the area and control air and noise pollution during the construction process.
Officials of the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry also informed Birla about the arrangements for the movement of VIPs and staff during the period of construction of the new building and especially during the Parliament session. It will be equipped with appropriate facilities for arranging more useful space for organizing parliamentary functions in the existing Parliament House so that the use of this building can be ensured along with the new building. It was also informed in the meeting that the construction work of this new parliament building will start in December 2020, which is expected to be completed by October 2022. The meeting was attended by Smt. Snehlata Shrivastava, General Secretary of Lok Sabha, Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary, Lok Sabha Secretariat, Housing and Urban Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, senior officers of Lok Sabha Secretariat, besides officials from Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, CPWD and other related agencies.
This project of the new Parliament House can be completed on time. For this, it has been decided in the meeting on the instructions of Lok Sabha Speaker Birla that a monitoring committee will be set up to monitor the construction work, which will monitor the quality and other related aspects while keeping the pace of construction fast. The monitoring committee will include, among others, officials of the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Public Works Department, New Delhi Municipality, and architects and designers of the project. Reviewing the progress of the construction work, Birla emphasized that the various agencies concerned should resolve various issues by keeping pace with each other. At the same time, he gave clear instructions that there should be no compromise in completing the construction work on time and ensuring quality.
The new building will have separate offices for Members of Parliament. Among the other facilities provided to the members, the seats of each Member of Parliament in the rooms will be more comfortable and will have digital facilities which will be a pioneering step towards a paperless office. In addition to the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers, the new building will have a grand constitution room, which will have original copies of the Constitution, digital displays, among other things to reflect India’s democratic heritage. During this meeting, it was informed that visitors will be provided the facility to visit this hall so that they can know about the visit to India as a parliamentary democracy. The new building will also have a lounge, library, six committee rooms, and dining rooms for Members of Parliament.
