(Harleen Kaur, Intern Journalist) Istanbul, There was a strong earthquake in the Aegean Sea on Friday. The earth shook from Turkey to Greece with its tremors. Its intensity on the Richter scale was measured at 7.0. Buildings in Turkey killed 12 people. Due to the earthquake, people got out on the streets in panic and started running around. Earthquake tremors were also felt in Istanbul and the Greek island of Samos. In both countries, high waves began to rise in the sea and many areas of Izmir city of Turkey were flooded.
Turkish government media quoted disaster and emergency management officials as saying that 12 people were killed and 419 were injured. Officials said that reports were coming in many districts of buildings falling and people buried in debris. There have also been reports of partial damage to properties in several other areas. Officials said relief and rescue operations are going on in the affected areas. Two teenagers died after a wall collapsed on Samos Island.
