(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Karachi: A 13-year-old Christian girl was handed over to her 44-year-old kidnapper Ali Azhar by a Pakistani court in a shocking verdict. The minor victim was kidnapped on October 13 from her house in the railway colony of Karachi. It is alleged that the victim was then raped and then forced to forcibly convert to Islam and marry the kidnapper.
Pakistan journalist Bilal Farooqui has confirmed this unilateral decision of the court through a tweet. With his tweet, he has also shared the birth certificate of the abducted girl issued by the Sindh government. In it, the age of the victim is written on 31 July 2007. Despite evidence that the victim is a minor, the court directed the kidnapper to accompany the girl on the basis of an affidavit signed by her. The Sindh Provincial Assembly enacted the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act in 2014. So that child marriage can be banned and the adult men involved in any such crime can be punished for up to three years.
Accused Ali Azhar is already married and has children.
According to the order of the Sindh High Court, the SHO (Station House Officer) has been directed not to make any arrests to prevent harassment and instead provide protection to the married couple. In its judgment, the court said that the minor girl had converted to Islam and named her Arju Fatima. The court said that the girl married Ali Azhar on her own ‘free will’ and without any fear or fear. Earlier, Ali Azhar presented a fake marriage certificate stating that the girl is 18 years old and not a minor. The mother of the minor girl, Rita, had earlier pleaded, “God save my daughter. We are very worried. Please help us. She and her supporters are intimidating us and we are threatened by these people. Please hear our appeal. ‘ After the daughter was kidnapped, she lost her job and started getting threats from Ali Azhar.
