(Harleen Kaur, Intern Journalist)New Delhi: The whole country is struggling with the corona pandemic. Everyone is waiting for the corona vaccine. A senior Indian scientist associated with ICMR told a news agency that the Corona vaccine could be launched in India by February of 2021. Bharat Biotech is a private company developing COVAXIN with a government-run ICMR. Which was expected to be launched in the second quarter of next year itself. Rajni Kant, the senior scientist of the ICMR associated with the COVID 19 task force, said that the vaccine has shown good effectiveness. It is expected that this vaccine will be launched by early next year i.e. February or March.
However, according to the news agency Reuters, India Biotech company could not be contacted about the claim of COVAXIN to be launched in February.
At the same time, Rajni Kant, associated with ICMR, also said that it will be up to the Ministry of Health to decide whether people can be given COVAXIN vaccines even before the Phase III trial is over. Kant stated that the first and second stage trials of COVAXIN were conducted in animals that were completely effective and safe, but we could not be sure to give 100 percent of the corona vaccine until the third phase was over.
