(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Lucknow: Tejas, the country’s first corporate train, is going to be closed from Monday till further orders. On Sunday morning about 400 passengers from Tejas to Lucknow to New Delhi and about 250 passengers from New Delhi to Lucknow booked for the journey. Most of the seats remained vacant due to this. On average, the train was losing Rs 9 lakh daily due to the seats remaining vacant. Railways have to pay Rs 13 lakh daily to run Tejas. Due to this loss, this step has been taken.
Other trains running between Lucknow to Delhi are also not getting passengers. Due to this, seats from every chair car to sleeper are running empty in VIP trains like Shatabdi, Lucknow Mail, and AC Special. Let us tell you that there was waiting on November 12 and 13 in Tejas, but no passengers were found on November 14. Despite giving complimentary food and free insurance of Rs 10 lakh, 662 seats remained vacant on November 18, 670 seats on November 19. At the same time, 45 seats were vacant on 15 and 15 seats in the executive class on November 16.
In this sequence, 54 seats were vacant on 18 and 19. This is the first time IRCTC has issued an order canceling the Tejas Express running between Lucknow Junction to New Delhi. Shatabdi, AC Express, and other Delhi trains are also getting fewer passengers.
