It is very important to have the address correct in the Aadhaar Card. With this, there is a lot of convenience in many functions such as opening an account with a bank, taking a new loan or credit card, buying a new SIM card, getting a new gas connection, taking an electricity connection. However, if your address is not updated, then you do not have to worry about it. You can update the address in Aadhaar Card in just a few steps.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the Aadhaar card issuing organization, has given a list of documents through which the address entered in the Aadhaar card can be updated.
In a tweet by Aadhaar, it is said that such documents are valid as proof of address, in which your full address is entered.
The list of documents given by UIDAI is as follows:
- Voter ID Card
- Driving license
- Passport
- Bank Statement / Passbook
- Post Office Account Statement / Passbook
- Ration Card
- Electricity bill (not more than three months old)
- Water bill (not more than three months old)
- Service Photo Identity Card issued by Government Photo Identity Card / PSU
- Telephone Landline Bill (not older than 3 months)
- Property tax receipt (not more than one year old)
- Credit card statement (not more than three months old)
- Insurance Policy
- Letter issued by the registered company on letterhead (It is also necessary to have a photo on it.)
- Arms License
- Letter issued by the bank on letterhead (this letter must have a photo)
- MNREGA Job Car
- Pensioners Card
- Freedom Fighter Card
- Farmer Passbook
- CGHS / ECHS Card
- A letter issued by a recognized educational institution bearing the student’s photo or a photo identity card issued by a recognized educational institution, indicating the student’s address.
- Certificate of address issued by MP or MLA or MLC or Gazetted Officer or Tehsildar on standard certificate format of UIDAI
To update the online address, you will have to visit the official website of UIDAI.
On the UIDAI website, under the ‘My Aadhaar’ section, you will get the option of ‘Update Demographic Data Online’.
After this, a new page will appear in front of you. There is an option to update the name, date of birth, gender, address, and language online. You have to click on the option ‘Proceed to Update Aadhaar’. Now enter the captcha code with the Aadhaar number and click ‘Send OTP’. After verifying the OTP, you can request an address update by uploading the required documents.
