They are demanding to increase the allowance of Rs 250 per day so far as per inflation. They have already performed about it. They allege that apart from KGMU, they have given memorandum several times at the government level as well. Even after this, there is no hearing. He demanded that the intern be given a stipend of at least Rs 30,000 per month.
KGMU has 250 MBBS and BDS intern students. They get a stipend of Rs 7500 per month. This stipend has been given for almost 10 years. There is a demand to increase it. On Tuesday, the interns left the work from the ward and gathered in the main campus. They roamed the entire campus shouting slogans from the Chancellor’s Office. After that, near gate number one, Chhatrapati sat on a dharna in front of Shahu Ji Maharaj’s statue. After some time, the students announced a hunger strike. Intern student Amar Pal Yadav says that he has also been made responsible like resident doctors. But less than daily wages is being given in the name of stipend. According to Dr. Amarpal Yadav, hunger strike is being done in a phased manner. Right now Dr. Avinash Yadav and Dr. Yogesh Pandey are sitting on hunger strike.
Students say that their duty was also put under the corona virus control. The government was assured that their stipend would be extended soon, but nothing happened yet. Intern students Dr. Shivam, Dr. Avinash, Dr. Manoj, Dr. Pappu Chaurasia etc. said that they are doing duty in all infection departments along with resident doctors. Despite this, their troubles are being ignored.
