(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: Pfizer has become the first pharmaceutical manufacturer in India to seek permission for the emergency use of the Corona vaccine. Official sources said that Pfizer has submitted its application in this regard to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI). The most important thing is that Pfizer has been allowed to use the vaccine in Britain and Bahrain. In an application to the drug regulator, the company has requested permission to import and distribute vaccines in India. Apart from this, the company has also sought permission for exemption from testing on people of India under the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019. On December 4, the company submitted an application to DCGI to allow the emergency use of the vaccine.
The UK is the first country to approve the use of Pfizer’s vaccine in its country.
He gave this approval on Wednesday. Here, the government has also stepped up preparations for the Corona vaccine. India is number one in the case of vaccine orders.
The government has already ordered 1.6 billion vaccines before coming to the market. According to two doses, 80 million or 60 percent of the population will be vaccinated with such a dose. The use of any vaccine or drug requires drug regulatory approval. Such emergency clearances require clinical trials and studies on thousands of people. This process usually takes up to 10 years. But in such cases when the immediate benefits of vaccine or medicine during an epidemic appear to be heavy on its risks, then governments give such sanctions.
In clinical trials, Pfizer’s vaccine proved to be 95 percent effective. Pfizer has discontinued Phase III testing. It is being said that this vaccine will also be suitable for India in terms of climate, geographical conditions, maintenance, and use. Pfizer has also sought approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for the emergency use of its covid-19 vaccine. A total of eight vaccine trials are going on in the country. These have to be produced within the country.
Three of these have been developed within the country. In the past, PM Modi had indicated that India is relying more on its vaccine without naming Moderna and Pfizer. There have been reports of first giving the vaccine to the healthcare workers associated with the treatment of corona, frontline workers associated with the management of corona patients.
