She said it was the trust she placed in him that kept her at this level. Shyamala Gopalan from India moved to America at the age of 19.
She became known as a civil rights activist while researching cancer. Her mother’s influence on Kamala Harris is immense. Attending an event on Wednesday under the auspices of the Indian-American Legal and Political Action Committee Impact, Vice President Kamala once again shared her mother’s words with everyone.
‘The story of so many Americans is also my story. My mother Shyamala Gopalan is from India. My sister Mayani worked hard to raise me and make me big. We may be the first ones. But my mother used to say that we are never the last ones, ”Kamala recalled.
Salute to the power of women
The video posted on Twitter before Kamala Harris was sworn in impressed everyone. He made this video as a tribute to those who landed on this earth before him.
‘Our mother came here first than I did. Our mother Shyamala Gopalan will remain in my heart forever even if she is not physically with us, ”he said. ” When our mother came to America she never expected her daughter to reach this level.
But she firmly believes that a woman like this one day will come to America. I have come so far by walking that faithful path. That is why I keep thinking of my mother’s words every moment, ”he said.
This country may not often recognize women who fight and sacrifice for freedom, equality, and reconciliation. But Kamala commented that sometimes they continue to prove that they are the backbone of this country.
