(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): Elyments, a social media app, was built in India taking into account the privacy of users as one of its primary goals. It supports 10 languages and allows users to talk with friends, make video and audio calls, meet new people, receive notifications and more. Over one thousand IT professionals from across the country have reportedly developed the device. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advocated a ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and has encouraged innovators and entrepreneurs to build for India.
Within the first 24 hours of the launch, the Elyments app crossed over 100,000 downloads on the Play Store. Dubbed as India’s first super social media app offering all of the features available on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Shortly after the launch, however, several users reported that the app did not work for several hours. The user is required to check their mobile number during the sign-up process by entering a 4-digit OTP. Nonetheless, the device does not give an OTP to the user even after many attempts.
Many people took to social media sites including Twitter to complain about being unable to sign up for the app. Questions submitted to the spokesperson at the time of publication remain unanswered.
