(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): Researchers at the University of Oxford believe they may find success in the discovery of the Covid-19 vaccine after the team has found that the jab can provide “double protection” against deadly coronaviruses after early-stage human trials, according to media reports in the UK. The total number of coronavirus cases worldwide has crossed 13.9 million and the death toll has exceeded 590,000.
Given the scale at which this pandemic is going on at a rapid pace, pharmaceutical companies and scientists are working overtime under pressure to come up with a vaccine as soon as possible. Currently, there are more than 100 vaccines in various stages of development worldwide including India, the UK, China, the USA, Russia, and Israel. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are currently at least 21 vaccines under key trials.
