(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist):On the 35th day of the peasant movement, the figure of 36 between the government and the farmers was seen to be over. A seventh-round of the meeting was held between the farmers’ organizations and the Center on Agricultural Laws at Vigyan Bhavan on Wednesday. In the meeting that lasted for five hours, the government bowed a little, so the farmers too became soft. The government accepted two of the four demands of the farmers. A January 4 date has been set for negotiating the remaining two demands.
After the meeting, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, “Today’s meeting was held in a good environment. The 4 issues were put up by the farmer leaders for discussion, among them, there has been a mutual agreement between the government and the union.” Here, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said, “Two issues have been agreed. Now the remaining two issues will be seen in the next meeting. Until the complete resolution is reached, our picket will continue.”
Approval on stubble and electricity bill
Tomar said- In the ordinance related to the first environment in the demand of the farmers belonged to the farmer and the parali. He said that the farmer should not be included in it. An agreement has been reached between the government and the farmers on this issue. Second, the Electricity Act, which has not come yet. They feel that farmers will be harmed by this. The subsidy given to farmers for irrigation should continue. On this demand too, there has been an agreement between the two.
MSP is not agreed to legal status
Tomar said – Farmers Union talked of withdrawing three laws. We have tried to tell them from our arguments where is the difficulty of the farmer? Where there is a difficulty, the government is open to thinking with an open mind. Regarding MSP, the government has been saying before that it is already there and will continue. They feel that MSP should get legal status. Discussion on the law and MSP continues. We will gather again at 4 o’clock on the 4th and will continue the discussion on these topics.
Center and farmers next meeting on January 4
Now on 4 January, there will be talks between the Center and the farmers. However, during lunch on Wednesday, there was a possibility of talking when ministers had dinner with the farmers. The farmers had brought their own lentils and rotis, but this time lunches were joined by Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.
