(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist) Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court has provided immediate relief to the two persons accused of treason. The Court stayed the arrest of the accused Ahmed Ali and Suhebur Rahman till the filing of a police report. The Court has also directed the Petitioners to cooperate in deliberations. However, the High Court has refused to quash the FIR.
Significantly, a treason case was filed against Ahmed Ali and Suhebur Rahman in the Kareli Police Station of Prayagraj. They were accused of distributing anti-constitutional pamphlets on March 6 in support of women staging a sit-in at Mansoorpark in protest against the CAA and NRC.
In this case, SO Kareli lodged an FIR in Section 124A and 153B IPC. Ahmed Ali is the present Imam of the Atala Mosque and Suhebur Rahman is a businessman.
This order has been given by the division bench of Justice Bachchoo Lal and Justice Subhash Chandra Sharma. In this case, councilor Fazal Khan from Karelbagh ward was also sent to jail after being accused. He has got bail from the High Court after 6 months.
SA Naseem, the Lawyer for the accused, said that the Court has stayed the arrest of Ahmed Ali and Suhebur Rahman till the charge sheet is filed. Police have also been ordered to cooperate with the accused in the investigation. However, the Court refused to quash the FIR lodged against them.
According to the lawyer, after the arrest of Councilor Fazal Khan, the names of Ahmad Ali and Suhebur Rahman were revealed in his interrogation. After which a case was filed against these people.
