E-commerce website Amazon has got permission for home delivery of alcohol. Amazon has just received home delivery of alcohol in West Bengal. This permission has been given by the West Bengal State Beverages Corporation. In this era of coronavirus epidemic, people are expected to reduce congestion outside liquor shops by facilitating home delivery of alcohol.
Significantly, liquor shops were also closed in the initial stages of the nationwide lockdown, which came into force from March 25, to prevent infection with the coronavirus. This led to a major loss in revenue from the sale of liquor to the state governments. After that, some states had decided to open liquor shops during the lockdown. But it saw huge crowds of customers outside liquor shops and in many places the rules of physical distance were broken. Since then, the demand for home delivery of liquor had gained momentum.
According to the news agency, it has seen some documents, according to which Amazon has got permission for home delivery of alcohol in West Bengal. According to a report, the West Bengal State Beverages Corporation, an agency authorized for the online retail trade of liquor in West Bengal on Friday, said in a notice, “Amazon was one of the companies found eligible for registration.
