(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) : US has given China on the issue of Hong Kong. President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed a law and executive order to arrange a ban on Chinese people and institutes due to the repression of people in Hong Kong. After signing the new law, Trump said, “I have signed a law that makes China accountable for repression against the people of Hong Kong.” Trump said, “they signed on the Hong Kong Autonomy Act that afternoon which will be a powerful weapon to hold China responsible.
The legislation would give the Trump administration the authority to ban foreigners and banks that are eroding Hong Kong’s autonomy. Trump issued this order 2 weeks after China enacted the Hong Kong security law. Speaking to reporters at the Rose Garden, Trump said,”The law will give my administration new powerful tools to hold them accountable to the organizations of the people who are destroying Hong Kong’s independence. we all saw what happened. The situation is not good there. Their freedom and rights are taken.” Trump said, “Hong Kong can not be treated by Mainland China. No special privilege, no economical trade, and no sensitive technology exports.” The US Congress unanimously passed the Hong Kong Autonomy Act this month.
