(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): A group of independent human rights experts from the United Nations has urged the removal or relaxation of sanctions imposed on other countries, including Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Venezuela, Syria, and Yemen during the Covid-19 pandemic. According to these UN experts, the people of these countries are in a lot of trouble and it is very important to help them. This will be possible only when it is possible to deliver vital relief material to the local communities in these affected countries. For this, it is necessary to relax the restrictions. These experts even say that people are dying here.
In countries where restrictions are in place, people do not have defensive tools to prevent the pandemic. They have issued a statement saying that the humanitarian exemption given to assist the countries facing sanctions has not proved to be effective. It says that due to these restrictions, people here have been deprived of their basic rights and human rights and are dying. They are not getting the right to better health, food, and life. Due to these restrictions, people are feeling a shortage of water, soap, power supply in hospitals, fuel for transportation of important goods, and other essential commodities including food.
