Approval for the formation of 103 new city panchayats and 8 city councils

(Pooja Dubey, Intern Journalist) The Bihar cabinet has approved the formation of 103 new Nagar panchayats and 8 new city councils. Simultaneously, 32 Nagar Panchayats will be upgraded to be made City Council. 5 Municipal Councils will be upgraded to Municipal Corporation. This decision has been taken to promote urbanization in the state.

According to the 2011 census in Bihar, the urban population is only 11.27 percent as against the national average of 31.16 percent. The situation is that many subdivision headquarters of Bihar are still under Gram Panchayat. The government believes that with the coming of the new civic bodies, people will get many new facilities.

The public of the state will be able to provide the cleanliness of cities, parks, and community facilities through street lights, drainage systems, machines. This will benefit urban facilities to the large population living in these areas. Many subdivision headquarters were still under the Gram Panchayat.

Many old block headquarters, which numbered more than 12,000 according to the 2011 census and where different standards of urbanization existed, were still considered to be under rural areas. Therefore, it was necessary to develop civic amenities at these places.
