Aatmja Kumari(Intern Journalist): Bombay; Republic TV chief Arnab Goswami has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court’s order rejecting his plea for interim bail in the 2018 suicide case.
Earlier on Monday, the Bombay High Court refused to grant interim bail to Republic TV anchor Arnab Goswami. Goswami was remanded to 14 days judicial custody on 4 November after being arrested by Mumbai Police and in 2018 there are two other co-accused as well.
The Court held that no case was made by the High Court for the exercise of extraordinary jurisdiction under Article 226 of the Constitution, while the petitioners have the remedy to seek regular bail under Section 439 of the CrPC. Goswami and other co-accused had filed a habeas corpus in the High Court against their arrest and remand under Article 226.
The bench had clarified that the accused can approach the Sessions Court and if any such application is made, the court concerned should decide it within 4 days.
The bench dismissed the interim bail application of co-accused Nitish Sharda and Praveen Rajesh Singh with the same remarks as in the case of Arnab Goswami. As was the case with Arnab Goswami. Goswami filed a regular bail application before the Alibaug Sessions Court before being ordered by the Bombay High Court. The Alibaug Sessions Court is today hearing a reconsideration petition by the Raibag police denying police custody of Arnab Goswami against the order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Alibaug.
