Suparna Ghosh (Intern Journalist) Kolkata: With the fresh report of 669 Covid-19 cases, West Bengal now stands at 20488 cases, being the 6th worst affected state in the list. Therefore, noticing the spike in numbers, domestic flights from Chennai, Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Ahmedabad including the capital Delhi has been banned from July 6 that is from Monday till July 19, until further orders from the state government.
Kolkata Airport Director claimed that ‘the decision was taken due to the request of West Bengal Government in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. ‘
Chief Secretary Rajiv Sinha also urged for suspension of flights from Indore and Surat as well, but as of now only, these 6 cities are included in the list of flight deferral.
