(Namita Pradhan, Intern Journalist) Karnataka has given the country many famous persons, Basava was one among them who has fought for injustice in the country. Basava was an Indian philosopher, statesman, and a social reformer from the state Karnataka. He has fought against the caste system, which discriminates against people from their birth and other Hindu rituals. Through his poetry, he has spread social awareness, known as Vachanaas.
Basanava used Ishtalinga, the image of Lord Shiva linga to remove the untouchability to start the equality among all individuals as a means to attain enlightenment.
He was a pioneer of Indian Democracy. He created the model Parliament called ‘Anubhava Mantapa’ which looks both men and women equally but also forms representatives from various socioeconomic backgrounds. The model of parliament is now seen at many temples in South India. He was a man ahead of time, who believed conflicts should be resolved through the debate and nonviolent.
