(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has congratulated opener, Rohit Sharma, on being selected for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. BCCI tweeted- Congratulations to you on being selected for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, India’s highest sporting honor. The fourth cricketer to receive this award. We are proud of you, Hitman !. Rohit has received the Arjuna Award in 2015.
Tendulkar was the first Indian cricketer to be awarded the Khel Ratna in 1998. Dhoni received this award in 2007 and Kohli in 2018 along with weightlifter Mirabai Chanu.
The Sports Ministry on Friday announced the award of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award to Rohit Sharma along with para-athletes Mariyappan Thangavelu, table tennis player Manika Batra, wrestler Vinesh Phogat and captain of women’s hockey team Rani Rampal.
