(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): Iterating the murder of BJP member and Hemtabad MLA Debendra Nath Roy, the saffron party on Tuesday said it had no confidence in the post-mortem report claiming that the legislator had died as a result of hanging and no injury mark had been found on his body.
The BJP’s general secretary, Rahul Sinha, said the police and the government were seeking to frame the murder as a suicide. “State should either hand over the investigation to the CBI or order a judicial probe under the supervision of a sitting judge of the high court,” he said.
On Monday the body was found hanging from the roof of a verandah outside a shuttered shop near his home in North Dinajpur district’s Bindal village. Police said it found a suicide note in the pocket of his shirt where he blamed two people for his death.
However, Ray’s family and the BJP claimed that the TMC murdered him, an accusation denied by the state ruling party. In 2016 Ray had won the (reserved) Hemtabad seat on a CPI (M) ticket but later joined the BJP. He hadn’t left his assembly seat, though.
A delegation from the BJP also met with President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of the government of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and a CBI investigation to Ray’s murder.
