(Manisha Mahar, Intern Journalist); Costume designer Bhanu Athaiya, who won the first Oscar Award for the country, has died at the age of 91. In a conversation, Bhanu’s daughter Radhika said that she died in her house on Thursday after a long illness. Bhanu was awarded the Oscar Award for the 1982 film Gandhi. Bhanu has been cremated at Chandanwadi in South Mumbai.
While talking about her mother, Radhika Gupta said – she had died this morning. A tumor was found in her brain eight years ago. For the last three years, she was on the bed because one part of her body was paralyzed.
Bhanu was born in Kolhapur and she started her costume designer career in the year 1956 with Legendary Director Gurudutt’s superhit film CID. She has worked with many of Bollywood’s best directors.
