(Manisha Mahar, Intern Journalist); Patanjali, a company associated with yoga guru Swami Ramdev, has received a major setback from the Madras High Court. The court has banned the trademark of Patanjali’s drug Coronil. Patanjali claims that coronil is a Corona vaccine. It was launched a few days ago.
Justice CV Karthikeyan of Madras High Court issued this interim order on July 30 on the application of Chennai-based company Arudra Engineering Limited. Arudra Engineering Limited states that ‘coronil’ is its trademark since 1993. Therefore, no other company can name it. Arudra Engineering Limited manufactures chemicals and sanitizers, which are used in heavy machinery and container units. According to the company, in 1993 it had registered coronil-213 SPL and coronil-92b. The company claims that it has been continuously renewing this trademark.
