Aatmja Kumari(Intern Journalist): In the second phase of Bihar Legislative Assembly general elections for 94 seats in 17 districts, more women candidates are in the fray for 40 seats. In this phase, more women candidates than in the first phase are ready to compete with full strength. In the elections for 71 seats of the first phase where 114 women candidates were contesting, 146 women candidates in the second phase are included in the election for the second phase.
Among the national and state-level political parties essayed for the 2nd phase of Bihar Assembly Election, the Janata Dal-U fielded the highest number of nine women candidates (9 woman candidates from JDU). At the same time, Lok Janshakti Party has fielded seven (7 woman candidates from LJP), Rashtriya Janata Dal has four (4 woman candidates from RJD) and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party has nominated three women candidates from RLSP. The Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and Bahujan Samaj Party have given tickets to two women candidates each. At the same time, other registered political parties have given tickets to 70 women candidates for the second phase. 45 women are also contesting as independents.
