(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): In Bihar, the number of urban bodies will now increase from 143 to about 300. In the cabinet meeting held on Saturday (26 December) under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the government approved only one agenda. Under this, 103 Nagar Panchayat, eight new Municipal Council, and five new Municipal Corporation were approved. Besides, it was approved to upgrade 32 Nagar Panchayats to become City Council Town. After this initiative of the government, the way for the formation of 148 new municipal bodies was cleared.
Principal Secretary of the Cabinet Department, Sanjay Kumar said that the government has approved the formation of a total of 111 new civic bodies. With this, the cabinet was approved for upgrading 32 Nagar Panchayat by upgrading the city council and five city councils to become a municipal corporation. City Development Secretary Anand Kishore informed that objections have been sought from the people within a month on the formation of new municipal bodies. DM and Commissioner can apply for claims and objection related people. The process of constituting new municipal bodies will be completed by the District Magistrates.
