Saloni Subha (Intern Journalist) London: The Boris Johnson goverment faced a major defeat in the house of lords on Monday when members voted overwhelmingly to withdraw a section of the Internal Markets Bill that would give London the power to break international law after Brexit.

Past ministers like Theresa May, David Cameron, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, and Jhon Major have also criticized the bill. After the 433-165 defeat, the bill came back to the house of commons, where the government said it would reinsert the section and ensure its passage.

The bill has raised hackles not only in the UK and the EU but also in newly elected US president Joe Biden since it has also impacted Good Friday Agreement. It is going to adversely affect the UK’S reputation if it doesn’t uphold the rule of law, critics argued.
