Rishika Iyer (Intern Journalist): The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has launched a new prepaid plan for long term users. The new plan is priced at Rs. 2399 for 600 days, which is a little over one and a half years. This new plan is exceptionally cheaper than their other competitors in the market. Reliance Jio and Airtel, their biggest contender charges the same amount for one year. Along with this, the government owned telecom brand has changed various schemes and discontinued existing plans.

However, this prepaid plan does not offer any data benefits and it can be used only for calling purposes. In an age where cellular data is everything, this plan certainly has a huge disadvantage. Mobile data has become more important than ever before due to the current COVID 19 crisis, with a large number of the population working from home. Most people prefer video calls through WhatsApp and other platforms like Skype and Zoom. Hence, this might not sound like a good deal to many. Nevertheless, there are still people who prefer making phone calls over texts and video calls, and this plan is perfect for them.
This plan is available pan India except in Andaman and Nicobar Island and in Jammu and Kashmir. This plan provides unlimited calling benefits with a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) limit of 250 minutes. Along with this, they give about 100 SMS messages free per day for 600 days. They also have separate data pack plans which one can recharge along with this plan. This plan costs Rs. 1599 per year for 1.5 GB a day and Rs. 2099 for 4 GB.
They have discontinued the Rs. 96 plan and have changed the plan from 90 days to 60 days for the same amount. They also stopped various plans in the Chennai and Tamil Nadu circles including the plans costing Rs. 725 and Rs. 149.
