Aatmja Kumari(Intern Journalist): By-elections are also being held in 54 assembly seats in 11 states of the country with the second phase of voting in Bihar. 88 candidates are trying their luck in seven assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. In the state, BJP, SP, Congress and BSP have fielded their candidates. The by-election results may not affect the Yogi government, but it is considered a litmus test of the 2022 election.

Apart from UP, bypolls are being held on 28 seats of MP, 8 in Gujarat, two each in Karnataka, Odisha, Jharkhand and Nagaland and one each in Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Haryana. The 7 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh where the by-elections are being voted include Malhani of Jaunpur, Tundla of Firodabagh, Bulandshahar, Naugawan Sadat of Amroha, Ghatampur of Kanpur, Bangarmau of Unnao and Deoria. Of these, Malhani was a Samajwadi Party MLA before the seat while the remaining 6 were occupied by BJP.

The SP is contesting the by-elections in six seats while the RLD is supporting the Bulandshahr seat. At the same time, due to the Congress candidate’s candidature in Tundla seat, his candidates are in the fray for six seats. BJP and BSP have fielded candidates in all the seven seats. Apart from this, Chandra Shekhar, Chief of Bhim Army, is also fighting for his party Azad Samaj candidate, Bulandshahar seat. All the parties have put their full strength to win the by-election battle.

By-elections are being held in eight assembly seats in Gujarat, on which a total of 81 candidates are in the fray. Elections are being held in two seats in Jharkhand, of which Dumka and Bermo are seats.

By-elections are being held in Baroda assembly seat of Sonepat, Haryana. This seat is vacant due to the death of Congress MLA Shri Krishna Hooda. The Congress is in the field of farmer leader Induraj Narwal from here, while the BJP has once again placed bets on Olympic winner Yogeshwar Dutt. Here a direct contest between the Congress and the BJP is being considered.

The by-elections are being held due to the death of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, an MLA from Marwahi seat in Chhattisgarh. Eight candidates are trying their luck in this seat, but the main contest is being considered between KK Dhruv of Congress and Dr. Gambhir Singh of BJP. At the same time, by-elections are being held in Dubbaka seat of Telangana, which is vacant due to the death of TRS MLA Solipet Ramalinga Reddy.

Similarly, elections are held for Balasore and Tirthol seats in Odisha, by-elections are being held for Nagaland’s southern Angami and Pungro-Kifir seats.
