(Pooja Pal; Intern Journalist): IT service company Wipro has appointed Capgemini Group veteran Thierry Delaporte as its new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. His term will be effective from July 6, 2020. Wipro gave this information on Friday. In January this year, the company reported that its CEO and managing director Abidali Z. Neemuchwala had decided to exit the company. Abidali Neemuchwala will step down as CEO and MD on 1 June. 

Rishad Premji will oversee the daily operations of the company till 5 July, Wipro said in a statement. He said, until recently Thierry Delaporte was the Chief Operating Officer of the Capgemini Group and a member of its Group Executive Board. During his 25-year career with Capgemini, he has held several leadership roles.

Rishad said that he has also overseen Capgemini’s India operations, and has been in the leadership of the change agenda of this group, besides having played several key roles in various business units.

Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji said Thierry has an exceptional leadership track record, deep strategic expertise, an uncanny ability to build long-lasting customer relationships, and experience in driving transformation and technological disruption. They believe that Thierry is the right person to lead Wipro.

Delaporte began his career as a senior auditor in 1992 with Arthur Andersen in Paris & London. He is not only the President but also the co-founder of Not-for-Profit Life Project for Youth. It is an organization that works on the professional and social integration of young adults living in poor areas.
