(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe, pilot of Air India Express and co-pilot Akhilesh Kumar also lost their lives in the Kozhikode plane crash. Captain Vasant Sathe is considered one of the finest pilots in the country. Captain Vasant Sathe has served in the Air Force for 22 years as a wing commander before flying an Air India passenger flight. During this time he also flew fighter aircraft like MiG-21. He was awarded the Sword of Honor. Captain Sathe’s brother was martyred in Kargil during the war with Pakistan. The father retired as a brigadier in the army.

Sathe, who retired in 2003, joined the Air Force on 11 June 1981 by Captain Sathe. He then held several key positions in the Airforce. On 30 June 2003, he retired from the Airforce. He then started helping airline companies with his experience.
He has also flown an Airbus 310 before flying a Boeing 737 flight of Air India Express. He was also a test pilot of Hindustan Aeronautical. He was also honored by the Air Force Academy due to his outstanding performance.

According to the Air Force, Captain Sathe was part of the Gold Arrow 17 Squadron for a long time, Captain Sathe received the Gold Medal in the 58th Course of the National Defense Academy. He then joined the Airforce Academy. He topped the 127th pilot course here and for this he was awarded “Sword of Honor”. He was part of the Gold Arrow 17 Squadron for a long time, having recently been given the responsibility of Rafael Fighter Plane.
