(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): The Supreme Court has stayed the order of the Uttarakhand High Court directing a CBI inquiry into allegations of corruption against Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice MR Shah said that the issue will be considered and a notice has been sought from the respondents.

In fact, in the order of the Uttarakhand High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had been directed by the investigative journalist Umesh Sharma to file an FIR and investigate the corruption charges leveled against Uttarakhand’s current Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.

The chief minister has been accused of transferring funds to the bank accounts of his relatives to support the candidate in Gau Seva Aayog when BJP is in charge of Jharkhand. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat challenged the verdict in the Supreme Court. On Thursday, Attorney General KK Venugopal told the court that the High Court is completely wrong. “They did not listen to them, see the results! Immediately, what would anyone guess? This is not something that the High Court should do and destabilize the government.”
