New York: A Chinese medical researcher was shot and killed in Pennsylvania, USA. He was researching coronaviruses and was close to an important discovery. Police say no evidence has been found that he was killed due to being Chinese.
Professor Bing Liu (37) of the University of Pittsburgh was found dead at his home in Ross Township on Saturday. He was shot in the head, throat, and chest. The body of Haogu, a 46-year-old man, was found in a car outside his house. Police believe that Haogu first killed Professor Bing Liu and later shot himself as well. They both knew each other.
Leu was close to an important discovery on Coronavirus
His colleagues from the university’s Department of Computational and Systems Biology told a news agency that Liu was close to an important discovery on Corona. They were understanding the cellular mechanisms and cellular basis of infection. His department head Evette Bahr said he was extremely talented, intelligent, and hardworking.
Pittsburgh University mourns
The University of Pittsburgh issued a mourning statement for the death of Bing Liu. The university said that the death of scholar Bing Liu is deeply sad. And they have deep sympathy for Liu’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. Liu completed his Ph.D. in Computation Science from the National University of Singapore. He then worked at Carnegie Melan University as a postdoctoral fellow.
