Akshi Kamboj (intern journalist) Hyderabad: when on one side several welfare organizations are constantly striving to increase the green cover in the city by participating in activities like Haritha Haram, an association of members of shaktinagar in moosapet along with civic officials axed around 10 trees in greater Hyderabad municipal corporation (GHMC) park.
In their defense, Sai reddy member of shaktinagar association said,” only one or two residents have a problem with the construction as they fear that ventilation to their house will be affected. there were only three trees that were in a weak condition and only those were cleared by GHMC. the hall is also being built by GHMC funds not society funds.”
The trees are being cut to build a community hall of 200 square yards while the residents claim that building another community hall is completely useless as it will only convert that green lung space into a concrete jungle.
Hyderabad high court brought some relief to the situation by ordering the association to not to harm the park in the name of road expansion.
