(Pooja Dubey, Intern Journalist) The Congress on Saturday appointed several office-bearers, including 32 vice-presidents, and formed several committees and election management teams for its state unit on Saturday in view of the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections a few months later.
Former Union Ministers P Chidambaram and Mani Shankar Aiyar and several other senior leaders have been placed in various committees. According to a statement issued by the party’s general secretary of the party KC Venugopal, Congress President Sonia Gandhi approved these appointments and the formation of committees.
32 Vice Presidents, 57 General Secretaries and 104 Secretaries have been appointed for the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee. Along with this, the party has also appointed members of the executive committee and the chairman of the 32 District Congress Committee. The Congress has formed the State Election Committee, Election Coordination Committee, Election Campaign Committee, Publicity Committee, Manifesto Committee, Media Coordination Committee and Election Management Team.
Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has been included in the Executive Committee as well as the State Election Committee and Election Coordination Committee and Iyer in the State Election Committee and the Manifesto Committee. MPs Manikam Tagore, Karthi Chidambaram and Jyoti Mani have also been included in various committees.
Assembly elections are proposed in Tamil Nadu in April-May this year. The Congress is likely to contest the election by joining the DMK-led coalition. Meanwhile, the Congress has appointed Krishna Barua as the president of Assam unit of NSUI.
