Aatmja Kumari(Intern Journalist): Leading automobile manufacturers Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Toyota Kirloskar Motor say disruption in the supply of components due to an outbreak of the coronavirus in China has had no immediate impact on their production schedule. However, companies are monitoring the situation to deal with any adverse situation in the future.
A Maruti Suzuki India spokesperson said, “As of now, we do not anticipate any problems. We will keep in touch with our suppliers and inform them if there are any problems. ‘ A Hyundai Motor India spokesperson said, “We are watching the situation. However, there is no impact on the company’s functioning at the moment.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has said the same thing. Naveen Soni, Senior Vice President (Sales & Marketing) of the company said, “Our first and second-tier suppliers have not been affected by the coronavirus yet. However, we are closely monitoring the operations of third and fourth-grade suppliers. The company is focusing on increasing the local supply of its components. So she is localizing them. This presents a good opportunity for domestic suppliers.
The Indian operations of South Korea’s Kia Motors have not yet been affected by the coronavirus. However, supply to MG Motor India has been disrupted. This has affected the company’s February product and sales performance.
MG Motor India sales director Rakesh Sidhana said, ‘The spread of coronavirus has severely affected our European and Chinese suppliers. This has impacted our February production and sales. It is likely to continue in March as well. Tata Motors declined to comment. But the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Guenter Butschek, said in early February that a correct estimate of the shortage in supply of components from China could only be made if workers returned to work there.
Siam, a vehicle manufacturers’ association, also said it would collect data from companies to determine the extent to which the coronavirus has been affected. Two-wheeler company Hero MotoCorp and TVS Motor Company said their production could be reduced by around 10 percent in February due to the corona virus spreading in China.
