(Namita Pradhan, Intern Journalist) India Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin has successfully passed the first stage, it was suggested as a safe vaccine. It was tested on 375 volunteers at 12 sites of India, Two doses for each volunteer. Principal Investigator Savita Verma leading the trial said, “It is a safe vaccine and have not observed any adverse events in any volunteers at the site”.
As all the volunteers are administered for the second round of dose, the investigators are collecting the blood samples to check the immunogenicity of the vaccine.
“Until now it is safe for which we started collecting the samples” added Verma. The investigators are expecting to finish the 1st phase by the end of this month.
It is safe,” said Sanjay Rai, the principal investigator of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. AIIMS has tested in 16 volunteers for testing the vaccine of Bharat Biotech.
The Covaxin is developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It was developed from the Covid-19 strain isolated by ICMR- National Institute of Virology, Pune.
After collecting the data from 12 sites it has shown desirable results, it will approach the Drug Controller General to conduct the phase II trials.
